Switching

Will I still be a customer of my utility?

Yes. The only difference is that you will also be saving money as a customer of Buy Energy Direct. Your local utility owns the power lines that carry electricity to your business or residence and they will continue to bill you for the delivery of electricity at rates governed by the state. The actual electricity will be supplied by Buy Energy Direct, an energy service company that constantly shops for the best wholesale prices to keep your costs down.

Will I be charged any fees when switching services to Buy Energy Direct?

No. We do not add additional charges or fees when you switch your services to Buy Energy Direct.

Will I notice any changes to my service?

When you make the switch to Buy Energy Direct, your electrical service will continue uninterrupted. You will still have access to your usage and billing history appearing on your delivery bill from the utility.

Will Buy Energy Direct need to replace any existing electrical service components such as service wires and transformers at my location?

No. Physical modifications are not required because we deliver your energy through the same transmission and distribution system owned and operated by your current local utility company.

Who is responsible for safety and reliability of power delivery?

The delivery system is still the responsibility of the utility and as such, its safety and reliability. The utility will maintain the lines and repair them if there is an outage or storm. The regulatory body overseeing utilities in your state will help to ensure that the utility continues to provide a safe, reliable delivery system for your use.

Will my local utility company treat me differently if I buy energy from an alternate provider?

No. Your utility is bound by law to provide equal service to all of its customers on a non-discriminatory basis.

What if I need to cancel my account and how long will the switch take?

In order to cancel your account, please send a written request to customer service. Please include the name on your account, account number, and state in which the account is located. Your local utility will determine the switch date, which is typically within 30 days.
